Underwater Film & TV Production Services

Underwater and Marine Services are managed by Andy McLeod and Pekko Vuorela, both qualified divers and instructors. Andy is an award winning underwater DoP as well as an HSE (UK Health & Safety Executive) registered Media Diver & Media Diving Supervisor. Pekko and Andy, with their team of freelance divers, boat handlers, riggers  and technicians have provided safety and technical services to many water based shoots, both here in the Canaries and further afield.

The Canary Islands offer a wide range of underwater and marine based filming opportunities. Between them, Andy and Pekko have logged more than 5,000 dives in these waters and their knowledge of the sea bed is unprecedented. Our database contains many hundreds of images of wild-life and location types, so if you think the Canary Islands would be suitable for an underwater or marine based shoot, then get in touch and we can show you what is available.

Film!CanaryIslands has extensive equipment and experience for shooting underwater. We have a qualified and highly experienced team, including DoP, operator, assistants and safety crew, who are available to work in any part of the world.

AquaTechnica Underwater Housing for RED ONE

The AquaTechnica underwater housing for the RED ONE Camera is professional and reliable piece of kit rated to 80m. The camera is housed with either the RED 18-50mm Zoom lens or our Zeiss Mark 2 prime lenses, available from 16mm to 50mm. There are two precision mechanical gears for accurate focus pulling and iris change, and there are manual levers for on/off, stop/start and user assigned buttons 1, 2 & 5. Monitoring is with a Gates "Deep Red" 5.6" monitor, mounted at the front of the housing and there is an optional SD video assist feed with up to 60m cable length. The system holds one Red Drive and with an optional Switronix hot swap adapter it is possible to have up to two Red Brick batteries, which will keep the camera operating for up to 2-3 hours. For security, the camera and monitor housings are pressurised prior to entering the water, and an external pressure gauge will show if all the seals are holding correctly. There are also 2 internal leak alarms. The housing is available for hire with one of our technicians, and you may wish to use your own camera or rent one of ours. The quality of the images from the RED One are stunning and a real alternative to shooting with 35mm, which has just a 4 minute run-time before a reload!

Amphibico "Phenom" housing For Sony HVR Z7

Amphibico's Phenom Housing for the Sony HVR Z7 is a full-featured housing providing access to all the key camcorder functions to depths of 330 feet or 100 meters. A full zoom-through 94 degree lens port compliments the package. This set-up is the ideal documentary camera.

Underwater Communications

Film!CanaryIslands owns and operates "wireless" underwater communications packages, enabling two-way communications between "diver & diver" and "surface & diver". This system is extremely useful for safe and easy co-ordination of the action in front of the camera. On the surface the director and/or safety supervisor can communicate either by with a push to talk handset/speaker combo or with a headphone/microphone headset. This gives the director a very clear picture of what is going on underwater whilst being able to sit and watch the video assist.

Underwater, divers wear Aga Full Face Masks (FFM) containing a waterproof microphone and earpiece. There are also separate Earpiece Receivers Units which can be worn by the cameraman if a FFM is not suitable or given to an actor or a presenter/contributor who is in-front of the camera.
The system can also incorporate a digital recorder allowing for 2 handed interviews to be conducted by a presenter whilst underwater.
